In February we talked about Black leaders, scientists, activists, and people who changed our history. We talked about the injustices and racism faced historically as well as systemically, modern-day hate, and micro aggressions.
In March we will talk about women who have made history- scientists, athletes, artists, and leaders. We will talk about sexism and stereotypes, oppression, and suffragists. In mid September we talked about Hispanic heritage. Latinx culture, celebrations, languages, and prominent Latinx writers. In October we talked about gay pride, diverse sexualities and gender identities, historical significance of the flags, activists and historical figures that paved the way to more acceptance. I don’t always know exactly what to say, but I will continue to let students see the value in diverse identities. I will always do what I can to make each student feel like they belong, they’re not alone, and that they are part of history too. I create a safe space to talk about the issues that really matter.

Your title is what made me stop scrolling. I wanted to read something from someone that is willing to take risks, willing to be seen, willing to be vulnerable. Isn't that what growth in this life is all about? Your piece was lovely. Your students are beyond blessed to be led by such an inspirational leader. Thank you for this piece!

Thank you for making your classroom a safe space for all imperfect students to show up with their imperfect teacher.

One of your most valued teaching qualities is how inclusive and sensitive you are to a student and their needs. You know how to approach a student, their parents, and other teachers with the most respect. Love you!
