I just typed up an entire blog and hit post. It looked as though all was well, then when I went back to it, there was nothing there.
Jt reminded me of the countless times in college that I would type a paper, or a portion of a paper, just to lose it for one reason or another. Sometimes the computer would crash, or close out the page without saving, or even after I saved it wouldn’t show up the way I wanted it to. Google has revolutionized all of this. I actually laughed today when a student came to me and said he will have to start all over at home and won’t be able to get his writing done if he starts it at school. He truly didn’t realize that his Google Doc. follows his login. First I couldn’t believe that for a student, who has really only ever known Google, wouldn’t know that. And second I though, how lucky are these kids that they’ll never encounter staying up late to finish an assignment and losing it all?

Yes!! I have been there too. Recently! My laptop at home needs to be replaced badly! If I close it or if it times out and I didn't save it.. it is gone. hours of sub plan writing- gone..UGH!

Oh gosh! We all did that- hopefully only once! I am even old enough to remember not being able to finish typing a paper because my mom's typewriter ran out of ribbon! My students never have to worry about losing a document when they use Google Docs, but they have invented new problems. My "favorite" is the student who just sits there, claiming they are not able to work because the Chromebook is broken or not charged.

That's the worst! It happened to me earlier this week. I wrote my slice and then it was gone. Not fun. Google is just one more way things are made easier for the students. They will never know the struggle.

Oh the woes of something not saving on the computer, laptop or on your flashdrive. I can't tell you how many flashdrives I own that are infected with viruses from using college computer labs. I know there are pictures or other docs on there that I need to get off but I don't know how :(
